hey,
just use unbalanced to the modulator.
you could put a balanced to unbalanced xformer but most of the cheap ones will degrade the fidelity.
what i usually do is wire the XLR with pin 2 for audio and pin 1 as ground.
this works fine as XLR is (2 +) (3 -) and 1 is ground.
this also allows you to easily switch phase by moving your audio lead from pin 2 to pin 3.
by the way, looks like the 2496 is a discontinued model. keep looking around, you might find it cheaper
