just use unbalanced to the modulator.
you could put a balanced to unbalanced xformer but most of the cheap ones will degrade the fidelity.
what i usually do is wire the XLR with pin 2 for audio and pin 1 as ground.
this works fine as XLR is (2 +) (3 -) and 1 is ground.
this also allows you to easily switch phase by moving your audio lead from pin 2 to pin 3.

by the way, looks like the 2496 is a discontinued model. keep looking around, you might find it cheaper

Thanks Blaine,
I've got one on the way. Big Bacon has that model and it sounds great. If I remember correctly they were about $200 new, so $150 with a Mic is not bad. Since it's claimed to be NIB. I also got a Marshal MXL 990 too.

I'd thought about running the balanced single pole like you said. But I didn't think of the phasing effect I was going to go full balanced. I'll try it. I've done it in the past and it still sounds OK. I'll stick to it and think about building a full balanced line design later.

My audio chain is moving up!
I've got the Behringer VX2496 and an MXL 990 Mic. All I need now is a transmitter to feed it with!

Newly added is a Behringer DSP2096, on its way as we speak. So I'll have lots of control over my audio.. Should be fun to fool with on and off the air doing all sorts of voice effects both for fun and professionally. It's been a long time since I've done any professional voice work and production so now I've got no excuse not to start up again!

My DSP2096 is sick... :(

I finally got around to sending my DSP2096 back for repair.. It worked flawlessly for a while them took a poop on me.

Not sure what happened but the display would only show Roswell type Hieroglyphics. I tried reseting it but no luck. Oh well. Hopefully it can be fixed or replaced It's still under full warranty so we'll see.
