Thoughts for a 160/80/40M VFO?

Postby N1ESE » Tue May 12, 2015 12:28 pm

Anyone have ideas how to easily adapt Steve's 160/80M VFO to also cover 40M? I'm looking to build decks for 160, 80, and 40M and I have his 2-phase converter board kit. However, I'd rather not dedicated a rice box just for this purpose. Ideally, I'd like to have a tri-band split phase VFO for this. I can follow schematics but not the engineer Steve is. His 7 MHz Hartley works fine at 160/80M but would likely not be stable enough if pushed much higher.

I would look into some small vfo kit.
Either a DDS or something based on Si570.

I use this one:
The Si570 Controller and Frequency Generator Kit #2

You can set the frequency to any multiple of what the display reads.
( for Steves convertor board set to X2 )

The only thing I don't like about this one is the pushing in on the vfo knob and turning for different menu functions.
But once it's set up, that's a non issue

I use my VFO on 40 meters all the time. The 2 phase converter board works up to 40 meters no problem. On 40 meters, the oscillator is running on 20 meters.
