Chassis Punches

Postby N3LRX » Tue Feb 20, 2007 12:47 am

Does anyone know if they make any rectangular shaped punches for those 3 pin AC cord connectors? I forget what they're called I've always called them HP connectors. The ones that are common on PC's and many other electronic devices.

I'm looking for one to punch some holes in the chassis for the e-rig.

"IEC" socket is what you're looking for.

They have punches for these things? Wow... I must have been missing out all these years! -- I drill a hole and use a nibbler and a file. =P

I would imagine they do..
I may have to resort to the old drill and nibbler myself.. I figured Greenlee or someone made a punch. Although Greenlee tools aren't exactly cheap! lol

I've searched on ebay and only found round punches or square, no rectangles.

Farnell here in the land of OZ carry most round punches and also some square/retangular one's ;I've made a few of my own (using tool craft welding rods for the cutting edge and ground to finish) with good results

chassis punches

You mean Greenlee punches? They have every size and shape, so I would imagine they make the IEC power cord socket punchset also.

I checked the Greenlee catalog and didn't see any.. Unless they have them but they aren't listed. I've got a nibbler I can resort to doing it by hand if need be. Just wondered if anyone knew of any direct sources.
