28Mhz Class E Amplifier

Postby WA2WVL » Mon Jan 30, 2006 10:09 pm

I have been testing a push/pull pair of MRF540N fets at 28Mhz.
Output transformer is 1T to 1T with network steping up to 50 ohms.
Best results so far was 50 Watts out for 8.2v@6.6a (92% as read on a Bird Wattmeter ,50w slug. Power per scope (Tektronix 465) was 44.5 Watts (82%).
Still working to get optimum loading to operate at 13.6vdc.
Stability more of a problem as voltage is raised.
2000 pf of Metal clad mica across each fet and dc fed thru T-2.0 output transformer.
I have convinced myself that these 98 cent parts will work on ten meters
and maybe 6 meters. 50 Watts is pushing the parts since they are small die (only 130w @ room temp) and several would be needed for a reliable
amplifier.
